Jean’s

NoHo — NYC

Cuisine: American
Visited on: April 30, 2026
Reservation: Yes

Overall Rating : 2.5 / 5

This chic vibe restaurant located in NoHo delivered with its lively atmosphere, but unfortunately not with its culinary execution and service. For the price point, I would at least expect my food to come out warm, a little more diversity in the menu items, and a more professional attitude from the staff. If you like their vibe, skip the dinner reservation and go for drinks only!

The Vibe : 4 / 5

It’s dim inside, giving cozy yet trendy vibes. If you’re sitting in front of the open kitchen, it may not be as cozy as the area inside the restaurant after the bar area. The area after the bar gives more of an upscale restaurant vibe, while the area right after the entrance gives more of a chill bites restaurant feel. The crowd is trendy and upscale, with a lot of people celebrating birthdays or anniversaries. More for a friends’ night out than a romantic night.

What We Ordered

Mozzarella Rings— $17 : 3/5

Deep-fried mozzarella with Italian breadcrumbs, served with spicy marinara.

Just a classic fried-up mozzarella, nothing new or inspiring. The little spiciness was a nice kick to the almost too-greasy rings, but the cheese inside was not melting. Nice crunch to open up the palate.

Tuna Crudo — $34 : 5/5

Miso-marinated raw tuna, charred eggplant, topped with chili crisp and ponzu sauce.

This was the best item we had at Jean’s this night. A unique combination of tuna and eggplant that reminded me of baba ganoush. The hint of ponzu and chili crisp added volume to the dish.

Steak au Poivre (Medium rare) — $56 : 2/5

New York strip steak with peppercorn sauce and shoestring fries on the side.

First of all, the dish came out almost cold, lukewarm at best. Second, it was not at all medium rare, at least in the culinary sense. It was more medium to medium-well done. To add the final touch, the aioli sauce for the fries was not emulsified properly, so it tasted like pure seed oil and vinegar. What a shame, as the meat quality itself was good.

Big Chocolate Chip Cookie — $24 : o/5

Plate-sized chocolate chip cookie with a small glass of milk on the side.

This was just salt to the open wound. Our server hyped us up so much, telling us that this is the best chocolate chip cookie in the city, and we had seen it everywhere on social media as well. Maybe it’s on us to expect this cookie to taste any different from any other cookie we have had in our lives. But GOD it was bad. The butter and sugar were not at all combined together, making it oily but with sugar crunching in your mouth at the same time. For $24, I would rather Uber to the other side of town to go to Levain Bakery.

Menu & Pricing : 2 / 5

This place is definitely not a place to be when your wallet is empty and crying. You might leave with an empty stomach and an empty wallet at the end of the night. Even though the portions are not necessarily tiny, they are definitely not normal American portions, especially for the price. There are a few items on the menu that are creative, and I tried one of them, the tuna crudo. It’s not a long menu, and it’s disappointing to see that there are not many unique menu items. It’s also confusing whether it’s supposed to be French cuisine or Italian, and to be frank, they failed to execute either.

Total Bill Per Person: $140

Final Verdict

I would come back for the downstairs lounge or drinks at the bar, but not for dinner, and definitely not for the chocolate chip cookie.
